Ask Jan for advice on work place issues.

Those interested in receiving advice on work place issues may submit issues or case scenarios by  Registering with us and providing a description of the issue in sufficient detail for us to understand the broader parameters.  Information we would like to have should be presented in three categories; Situation, Problem, and Desired Outcome.

The following is an EXAMPLE of an issue organized into the three areas in which we need information (Your issue should be described in the text box on the bottom of the Registration form).

Situation

I am a degreed communication specialist and have recently been hired as Manager of Communications for a large school district.  I report directly to the Superintendent of Human Resources.  During the past three weeks I have established rapport with others in my department as well as the people in the district who provide information for a newsletter for which I am responsible.  I have also established positive relations with printers and other external resource providers that support my function.

Problem

My boss asks me at least two times a day how I am doing and whether or not I am satisfied with the support I am receiving.
Each time I reply with "Everything is fine!" because it is!

Lately, however, he seems slightly irritated with me.  And when I overheard him ask a co-worker how she thought things were going with me, I became upset.  So, my problem is convincing my boss that everything is OK.

Desired Outcome

I would like for him to not ask co-workers how I'm doing.

Some of the more interesting case studies and issues that are resolved and will benefit all readers will then be published through our quarterly news letter,  Mission Chronicles.

The January 2001 issue of Mission Chronicles contains a conversational discussion of some of the features of mission, vision, set-points, system dynamics, aging dynamics, and structural dynamics as described in The Theory of MissionsÔ The topics in Mission Chronicles in the future will be broad scope and address contemporary  management issues.

If you want to be included on the distribution for Mission Chronicles, please go to the Register Now page, fill it out,  and submit it to us.  We will include you on e-mail distribution announcing its availability.  Only those who register will be able to receive the newsletter.
